A friend and I struck fae Milngavie
To Glasgow fair to get a fee
And all along the roads were strung
With lads and bonnie lassies gay

And it's on the road we chanced to spy
A lady walking by hersel'
For fear the rain her clothes would stain
With her I shared my umbrell'

And we traveled together the lea long road
'Til an ale house it stood by the way
I asked her would she have a half
Of whiskey, brandy, rum or ale

Then we gained consent and in we went
To the ale house that stood by the way
Glass after glass, the time did pass
And we both forgot our feeing day
